National Symposium on Diversity of Animal Life
(NSDAL - 2024)

The department of Zoology of Shri Dnyanesh Mahavidyalaya Nawargaon organized a two day National Symposium on "Diversity in Animal Life" for faculty members, research scholars and students of Zoology.
Aim & Objectives
This Symposium has been organized to understand the diversity of animal life which is a fascinating and critical area of scientific inquiry. Exploring and understanding this diversity is a fundamental pursuit of biology, as it provides insights into the intricate web of life on our planet. By exploring the anatomy, histology, physiology, taxonomy, ecological roles, and interactions of animals, we gain insights into the complex web of life on Earth. This gathering will also highlight the need for conservation efforts to protect the incredible variety of species that contribute to the health and resilience of our planet's ecosystems
Introduction
Research in animal life diversity has played a vital role in improving human life to a very great extent. The discussion on the frontier areas of research in Diversity of animal life has always yielded novel ideas and collaborative research. In view of this, the National Symposium on Diversity of Animal Life (NSDAL 24) was meticulously planned to muster innovative ideas from researchers, scientists, academicians and students. The aim of the Symposium was to provide a common platform to share and discuss novel ideas, technologies and research findings to promote research and to ignite young brains.
In these two days, there were 01 keynote address, 03 technical sessions and 26 (from research scholars) & 21 (from PG students’) poster session. Total 179 (69 faculties, 51 students and 59 registered for workshop) participants attended the symposium representing different colleges from more than 03 university. All the participants interacted with each other, enjoyed the lectures, technical sessions as well as beautiful campus.
Inauguration
In the inaugural function, Chairperson Mr. Sadanand Borkar, Secretary of Bhartiya Shikshan Sanstha Nawargaon welcomed and felicitated the dignitaries. Guest of honor, Dr D B Tembhare Ex-Dean, Ex-Professor & Head, Department of Zoology; RTM Nagpur University Nagpur delivered the captivating keynote address in which he highlighted the importance of biodiversity and its conservation. The audience was captivated by the appeal of senior academicians that had set the tone for the further discussion in the upcoming three technical sessions during the two day symposium.
Inaugurator Dr. Kawale, Pro VC Gondwana University, Gadchiroli shared his views on the said theme and appealed to the researchers to get fruitful feedback through the symposium. Chief guest Dr Chitade, Dean, Science and Technology, Gondwana University Gadchiroli appreciated the efforts of the organizers and informed the various academic financial aids provided by the Gondwana University Gadchiroli in the form of stipend and scholarship. He prominently emphasized on the rural employability schemes of the University.
In his chairperson address, Mr. Sadanand Borkar, appealed to all the researchers to prevent the man-wildlife conflict. Principal Dr. Bakare made the introductory remark and introduced all the guests on and off the stage.
The event also celebrated the felicitation of eminent scholars in Zoology. On this occasion, Dr. Khurad, Dr. Andrew, Dr. Barsagade, Dr. Masram and Dr Bute (all from RTM Nagpur University) were felicitated by the hands of the guests.
The inauguration session culminated with the publication of the abstracts of 72 research papers written by the research scholars and faculties at the hands of the guests. This underscored the symposium's commitment to bridging the gap between human and wildlife.
Mr. Kshirsagar conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session. The convener of the symposium Dr. Umesh Indurkar proposed a vote of thanks. A large number of academicians, research scholars and students were present in the symposium.
Technical Sessions
Soon after the Inaugural session, the first technical session on “Global distribution of mosquito-borne disease vectors and their management strategies” by Speaker Prof Arun M Khurad, Former Head, Department of Zoology, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. He gave a brief overview about the concept of mosquito-borne disease and control. It was chaired by Dr. P. M. Telkhade, Chairman- BOS in Zoology, Gondwana University, Gadchiroli and Co- Chairperson, Dr. S. D. Misar, Member- BOS in Zoology, Gondwana University, Gadchiroli. This session was conducted by Dr Dipak Bansod, Assistant Professor, Govindrao Munghate College, Kurkheda.
Second Technical session was on "Relation of Plate Tectonics with Evolution, Migration and Extinction of Organisms" by speaker Prof. Deepak Malpe, Former Head, Department of Geology, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur, session chaired by Dr Milind Shinkhede, Member- BOS in Zoology, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur and Co- Chairperson, Dr. R N. Chavhan, R M G College, Nagbhid. This session was conducted by Dr. N.R. Thaokar, Gramgeeta Mahavidyalaya, Chimur, Dist- Chandrapur.
Third technical session was on “Research Potential in Diversity, Conservation and Productivity of Stingless Bees” by expert Dr Ashish Kumar Jha, Head, Department of Zoology, Hislop College, Nagpur. Session was chaired by Dr. S.R. Sitre, Nilkanthrao Shinde Science and Arts College, Bhadrawati, Dist- Chandrapur and Co- Chairperson, Dr. M.S. Paingankar, Govt. College Science, Gadchiroli. This session was conducted by Mr. J.W. Hajare, Nevjabai Hitkarini College, Bramhapuri, Dist- Chandrapur
All the technical sessions were highly informative and interactive. Students actively participated in the technical as well as poster sessions and cleared their doubts and queries. More than 47 researchers and students presented their work through poster presentation. They were asked questions by the experts and other participants. Various suggestions were also made by experts to do better in their research work. The chairman of the poster session evaluated the posters and interacted with the presenters. Healthy discussions took place between the experts and the presenters.
In Valedictory session 10 best poster presentation by researcher awarded with cash prizes and felicitation of symposium convenor Dr Umesh Indurkar for successful symposium organised by the hand of chairperson Dr R J Andrew, Director, P G T D Zoology, Hislop college, Nagpur, Dr Dhamani, Principal, Gramgeeta Mahavidyalaya, Chimur and Prof D D Barsagade, Ex Prof & Head, PGTD Campus, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. This session was conducted by Mr Ashiq Nagwanshi and proposed the vote of thanks of the entire symposium by Convenor Dr Umesh Indurkar.
Workshop
On the second day 13/01/2024 the workshop was held at Ghodazari forest region to observe the diversity of fauna. Total 59 students participated in the workshop under the expert supervisor Dr G D Deshmukh, Principal, RMG College Nagbhid, Bird watcher Mr Borode and his team. Entomologist Dr Ashish Jha, Dr Milind Shinkhede and Dr Yogesh Bhute were also present as experts. They guided the students extensively on how to identify birds, insect from their sounds, habit, habitats, color pattern, behaviour problems and rearing. Two students gave their feedback on the workshop. Principal Dr Bakare and workshop coordinator Dr Umesh Indurkar concluded the workshop by thanking everyone.
As we continue to explore and learn about animals, we deepen our appreciation for the wonders of nature and our responsibility to safeguard it for future generations.
