About the course
 

The career oriented program sponsored by University Grants Commission granted our college a certificate course in vermiculture. The certificate course came into existence in the session 2007-08. Every year a batch of 20 students from arts and science undergraduate classes are trained, examined and become successfully awarded certificates.


Goal
 

To develop the skill among the student and to add income to their pocket while performing their graduation and start small scale industry for self employment.


Outcomes
 
  • Students will be able to compost in a limited space and describe the decomposing process.

  • The interested students will get the knowledge of composting,

  • Students will get the employment,

  • They can generate employments,

  • They will also turn towards organic farming,

  • Will help to maintain the environment pollution free

  • Will get the knowledge of biodiversity of local earthworms.


Focus
 

To convert unwanted, organic matter, particularly Plant Leaves into fertile soil.


Highlights
 

Every year department of vermiculture produces around 45 quintals of vermicompost earning around 22500 Rs. income to college and approximately 100 liters of vermiwash earning 5000 Rs. The market costs of both the products are four times more but still department sales the product to promote and motivate people for the organic farming. In the recent years our department achieved its goal at its maximum extent to create awareness about organic farming. Department has organized village level program for the promotion of vermiculture for making them self-sufficient and restrict people from excessive use of chemical fertilizer.

Course Structure
 
  • Eligibility : 10+2, any graduate

  • Duration : 06 months i.e 180 days.

  • Language : English/Marathi

  • Intake : 25 seats

  • Fees : Rs.250/-

  • Selection / Admission Criteria : First come first serve.

  • Attendance : 90% Lecture / practical.

  • Timing : As per time table.

  • Lecture/practical timing : As per time table

  • Academic calendar for the course : Three days in a week (Three theory periods & 1day practical).

  • Available infrastructure : Well-equipped laboratory, small & large scale vermiculture units.

  • Teaching Staff : Qualified, Experienced Professors & Guest Lecturers will be invited.

  • Non teaching staff : 1 lab assistant & 1 lab attendant.
