Complete Story

Department of Mathematics inaugurated its Mathematical Club “Math-e-Logic” for the year 2022-23. The event occurred on the 11th day of October. On the eve of society inauguration, the guest lecture was also arranged on the topic ‘Mathematics in Reality’. Mr Atish M Gour, Assistant Professor, Department of Basic sciences and Humanities, St Vincent Pallotti College of Engineering, Nagpur was invited to deliver the lecture on the above topic. Along with him, Dr Lalit Ujede, Head, Department of English of organizing institution graced the event as chairperson. Dr Ujede, in his speech, elaborated the roles and duties of club associates in brief. The event coordinator, Mr Ankosh Ramteke, Head, Department of Mathematics of the same institution compered the program. Mr Ratnakar Gurnule, CHB lecturer of the department was given responsibility of managing the various stakes in the event. The guest speaker Mr Atish Gour presented the applications of mathematics in the real world by taking multiple examples and in a way that students in response told that they didn’t think the core mathematical concepts like limits and algebra or real analysis can be found anywhere or can be relatable in real life. In his lecture, he told students how architects use the concepts of calculus in designing the curved structures, how trigonometry is used to determine the height of aircraft or determining the location of ship. He also showed the audience how one can form a dancing animation using algebraic functions. Besides this, he showed the students how Matrices and Vectors are used in artificial intelligence, cryptography, economics and businesses, sports games and in many more areas. He also conducted ‘TALK WITH ME’ session where students have to tell their ambition and how they are going to achieve their goal, not only this but they also laid to ask the speaker about the career opportunities in Mathematics. The oral feedback was also the part of the same session where we got very positive output from them. In feedback, students asked the organizers to arrange more lectures like this in future and also wanted to get the contact of speaker to remain connected thereafter. The event lasted for 2 hours 30 minutes and a vote of thanks was proposed by the head of Mathematics department, Mr Ankosh Ramteke.
