NSS Department of Shri Dnyanesh Mahavidyalaya Nawargaon celebrated the 150th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda on 15 November 2025 in Pasayadan Hall at 8.30 am. The revered tribal freedom fighter and social reformer, with great enthusiasm and cultural pride. The programme was organized to create awareness among students about Birsa Munda’s contribution to India’s independence and his efforts to protect the rights, culture, and identity of the tribal communities.

The event began with offering floral tribute to Birsa Munda’s portrait by  principal Dr. Amrut Lanje followed by a brief introduction highlighting his life, struggle, and legacy. NSS programme officer Dr. Hemant Meshram emphasized how Birsa Munda inspired the Munda Rebellion and became a symbol of tribal resistance against British rule.

As part of the celebration, students witnessed a vibrant and traditional ‘Gondi Dance’ performed by the college cultural team. The dance showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Gond tribal community and added a colourful touch to the event. The rhythmic movements and traditional music captivated the audience and received great appreciation.

To further enrich the students’ understanding, a documentary/film on the life of Birsa Munda was screened. The movie highlighted important episodes of his leadership, the Ulgulan (Great Tumult) movement, and his dedication to social justice. Students actively engaged with the content and shared their reflections on the relevance of Birsa Munda’s ideals in today’s society.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Ravindra Deulwar acknowledging the efforts of faculty, performers, and students for making the event meaningful and memorable. The celebration served as an inspiring reminder of the courage and sacrifices of Birsa Munda, motivating students to value the cultural and historical richness of India’s tribal communities.
