The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Shri Dnyanesh Mahavidyalaya, Nawargaon, organized a programme to commemorate the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on 3 October 2026. The programme was conducted with the aim of introducing students to the values, principles and contributions of these two great national leaders.
The programme began with floral tributes to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, followed by a poster presentation competition based on social, national and value-oriented themes.
The programme was presided over by the Principal, Dr. Amrut Lanje. Dr. Gajanan Kortalwar and Mrs. Geeta Sonawane were present as the chief guests.
In his address, Dr. Gajanan Kortalwar highlighted the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence and cleanliness in contemporary society. Referring to Gandhi’s life and his experiments with truth, he explained the strength and importance of truth and non-violence in personal and social life. He also spoke about Lal Bahadur Shastri’s simple lifestyle, honesty, dedication to duty and patriotism. He explained the significance of the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, emphasizing the contribution of both the armed forces and farmers to nation-building.
Mrs. Geeta Sonawane also addressed the students and highlighted the inspiring life and contribution of Lal Bahadur Shastri.
The introductory remarks were delivered by NSS Coordinator Dr. Hemant Meshram, who explained the contemporary relevance of the thoughts and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the Poster Presentation Competition by the dignitaries. Students presented creative and informative posters highlighting various social and national issues.
The programme was organized and coordinated by NSS Coordinator Prof. Ravindra Deulwar, Prof. Durgesh Kshirsagar and Prof. Deeplata Pustode. The programme was compered by Diksha Nikode, Class XI Arts, while Diksha Gaikwad, Class XI Arts, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the National Anthem. Teaching and non-teaching staff and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
