National Science Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the college on February 28. The program was presided over by Dr. Amrit Lanje. Dr. Umesh Indurkar, Dr. Hemant Meshram, Prof. Ankosh Ramteke and Dr. Gajanan Kortalwar were present as the keynote speakers.
The program began with the guests offering flowers to the portrait of Dr. C. V. Raman and lighting a lamp.
Prof. Dr. Hemant Meshram explained the importance of National Science Day. The justification for this day is the discovery of the ‘Raman effect’ by Dr. C. V. Raman in 1928. In memory of this great discovery, National Science Day is celebrated in India every year on February 28. On this day, he guided the students to adopt a scientific approach against superstition. He said that superstition and wrong beliefs hinder the progress of society and appealed to look at everything rationally and scientifically. He explained that the attitude of seeking truth on the basis of science should be cultivated.
Prof. Ankosh Ramteke highlighted the unique importance of mathematics in science. He said that mathematics is the basic basis of science. No scientific research, experiment or theory can be completed without the help of mathematics. He explained that mathematics increases reasoning power, allows problems to be analyzed accurately and scientific conclusions can be presented clearly.
Prof. Dr. Umesh Indurkar, in his guidance, appealed to the students to cultivate a scientific approach. He said that it is necessary to look at anything with skepticism, logic and evidence-based perspective. He mentioned that scientific attitude is very important to remove misconceptions and superstitions in the society. In his presidential address, Dr. Amrut Lanje motivated the students to pursue a career in the field of science by saying that science promotes the overall development of the society.
Students also expressed their views in the program. Some students spoke about the importance of Science Day and expressed their thoughts on the positive changes that science has brought to life. He highlighted the need to adopt a scientific approach and expressed the desire to contribute to the progress of the country through research and innovation.
The program was compaired by Aarti Meshram and the vote of thanks was presented by Pranay Shende. It was expressed satisfaction that the scientific approach, curiosity and motivation for research had been instilled in the students on the occasion of National Science Day. The program was attended by a majority of students as well as teachers and non-teaching staff.
