Zoological Society associate with Department of Zoology, Shri Dnyanesh Mahavidyalaya, Nawargaon District Chandrapur organized program  on “ World Wetland Day” at Department on 21st January 2025 as per Gondwana University notification.

            Dr N V Harney, Department of Zoology, Nilkhantrao Shinde College, Bhadravati was chief guest the programme, Principal Dr A S Lange, chaired the session, while Dr. Umesh Indurkar,  Department of Zoology delivered introductory speech. In introductory speech Dr Indurkar has given the information on world wetland day which is celebrated on 2nd February worldwide to raise awareness about the value of wetlands for the theme our common future. World Wetland Day was celebrated for the first time in 1997 and has grown since then. Each year, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and groups of citizens at all levels of the community have taken advantage of the opportunity to undertake actions aimed at raising public awareness of wetland values and benefits such as conservation by organizing different program.

Dr N V Harney chief guest of the function talked on important on world wetland day. This day marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.Since 1997, the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands has provided outreach materials to help raise public awareness about the importance and value of wetlands.The Standing Committee of the Convention on Wetlands approved the different themes for World Wetlands Day such as Wetlands and Climate Change, theme for 2019, Wetlands and Biodiversity, theme for 2020, Wetlands and Water, theme for 2021. He also motivated students for conservation of flora and fauna biodiversity in our nearby wetland ecosystem.

 On this occasion, chairperson Dr A S Lange expressed their view on conservation of wetland ecosystem. Mr Prayan Gobade compared the programme and Ms Aarti Meshram proposed the vote of thanks. All teachers and students of college

Outcomes / Outputs of Activity

  • By bringing attention to the importance of wetlands, the day encourages students to understand the benefits of wetland ecosystems and take action to protect them,
  • Promoting their conservation and wise use by highlighting their functions like water regulation, flood control, water purification, biodiversity support, and providing livelihoods for many people across the globe.
