Institutional Distinctiveness

The vision of the institution, Shri Dnyanesh Mahavidyalaya is ‘An institution of international standards, rooted in traditional values with a global perspective.’. To cultivate competence and efficiency along with character and integrity amongst the youth in the rural area, the institution makes die-hard efforts for the creation of a society that is not only progressive but also inclusive since its inception in 1968. The habitat, floral and faunal density and diversity, satisfactory infrastructure, and sufficient residential facilities (Girls Hostel) for needy and poor girl students contribute to the sustenance of the institution in higher education.

The institution caters to the rural population dependent on agriculture, by introducing a certificate course in Vermicomposting. Pursuing UG and PG, the students study these courses side by side, which enhances their practical knowledge in agriculture to tackle the employability issue to some extent. Vermicomposting plays a significant role in rural areas. It is experienced that due to ignorance, people have been using excessive amounts of chemical and synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. To minimize this use to some extent, the institution has been running this project for many years catering to the organic fertilizers to the people in the vicinity.

The aim of the institution is to motivate the students towards higher education and strengthen their capabilities. located at the remote and socio-economically backward region in Maharashtra state, continual uplift and progress of the surroundings indicate the painstaking efforts taken by the institution. The institution has started PG programs in Arts (Economics, History and Pol Science) and Science subjects (Chemistry, Physics, and Zoology) in the year 2019-20. It was seen that the students of the institution were facing numerous problems for pursuing post-graduation in their subject. There was no availability of the PG institution in the vicinity hence they had to join the PG institutions located at far distant places. The institution considered this problem very seriously and decided to start PG courses in order to fulfil the educational thrust of the students. In the year 2018-19, the institution sent the proposal to start PG programs in Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Economics, History, and Political Science to Gondwana University, Gadchiroli, and eventually received a positive response. This was not an easy task for the institution as there was the unavailability of PG labs especially for science subjects, besides there was no financial support from the government-funding agency. However, due to the support and cooperation of the executive management, the institution could able to built well-equipped labs for the science subjects and started all the PG programs from the session 2019-20.

The institution is committed to sculpting future citizens who are fully equipped with graduate attributes and employability. This commitment is made possible by conducting Entry-in-Services Scheme, Remedial Coaching, arranging seminars/ conferences/ workshops, rendering social service through NSS, Guest Lectures, University Level Events, Language Lab, Wi-Fi, etc.

The independent library containing adequate books for competitive exams and 24×7 reading room in the institution for the preparation of competitive examination is quenching the thrust of the aspiring students. The central library is enriched with more than 29,000 books comprised of encyclopaedias, rare collection of religious books, e-books, magazines etc. Also, the library has subscribed 10 daily Newspapers in different languages. INFLIBNET and N-LIST are the key features of the library.

The institution has a special cell, Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) to empower the girl students, which provides them safety at their workplace (College). In addition, ICC also provides legal training to the students about many important laws useful in their day-to-day life.

A well-equipped and student-friendly Physical Education Department has a huge sports ground and other facilities, which provide avenues for the participation of the students in sporting activities. A gymnasium in the institution fulfils the demand for the physical fitness of the students.

The NSS unit addresses the innate social responsibility of the students through various activities that are focused on social issues, local needs, and issues of State and National importance. The institution is the recipient of the prestigious State Level Best NSS Unit Award. The unit is devoted to social commitment and has credit to organize a state-level NSS camp successfully in 2018-19 comprised of 225 volunteers from various universities across Maharashtra.

One of the key aspects of the institution is that a significant amount of the teaching staff is involved in the Board of Studies (BoS) of the affiliated university, which designs the curriculum of their respective subjects in the university.

12 teachers out of 18 are Ph.D. holders whereas 4 have registered for Ph.D. Six faculty members are Ph.D. supervisors.

‘Master Software’ is operational in the institution to perform office automation properly. Computer Centre caters to the need of internet and e-resources. The Language lab is functional and enhancing the communicative skills of the students.

The science labs are rendering service to the UG students. To fulfill the need of PG students, separate labs All the departments are equipped with internet facility. ICT classrooms provide a platform for the teaching learning process.

The independent ICT equipped auditorium ‘Pasaydan’ with the capacity of 2000 audience is constructed to organize various activities.

The eco-friendly rooftop solar panel unit with the capacity of 2KWA in the institution is proved effective to generate energy to minimize the expenses on power bills. A generator is also installed in case of power failure.

The institution has collaborated with 5 agencies to exchange knowledge through MoU.

The college magazine is published annually by the institution. It added a feather in the cap of the institution by receiving the ‘Best Magazine Award’ twice in the competition of best magazine organized by the affiliated university. One of the faculty members is the recipient of the CARL LINNAEUS SCIENTIST national award.

The institution also runs a study centre Yashwantrao Chauhan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) that provides a platform for education to the students who cannot attend the college regularly.
